CBSN PLAN FOR EXPLORING THE VALUE OF CAMPUS BASED SCHOOLS

Nine Founding Members govern the network. Founding Members will establish policy as well as when, where and how often members will meet. The Chair and Vice Chair of the Network are appointed in alternate years by the Founding Members each for a two-year term. A semi-annual Newsletter and website provides communication.

CBSN MEMBERSHIP

All school districts having a governing board are eligible to have members enrolled. There is no cost for membership and membership applications will include the name of the school district, as well as contact information, including phone number and email address.

CAMPUS BASED SCHOOLS NETWORK

Provides a framework for the discussion of geographically centralizing school buildings on a single site. This centralization, coupled with a focus on those attributes which characterize successful schools, provides the backdrop for discussion by those districts that are currently or planning to have all school buildings on a single site.

SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED STATES

•    More than 55 million students K-12.
•    Over 14,000 school districts and 130,000 school buildings.
•    The average school building enrolls a little over 500 students.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SUCCESSFUL SCHOOLS

•    Have exemplary leaders who are effective in promoting achievement.
•    Have a common goal and vision developed collectively.
•    Have staff members who believe all students can achieve and attain high standards.
•    Treat students with respect and provide and meet the students’ individual needs.
•    Provide staff with training in line with the school’s vision and mission.

PreK-12 education has become more expensive and academic achievement more elusive. Charter schools, vocational schools, alternative schools, and magnet schools are on the rise as more and more legislators, teachers and parents work together to create additional educational opportunities for all children.
